Fir Vale School was delighted to host Gill Furniss MP when she visited on 23 March 2018.
Ms Furniss spent time with new Headteacher Simon Hawkins before meeting members of the Fir Vale Pupil Parliament. Pupils quizzed their local Parliamentarian on a number of issues including how she became an MP.
Ms Furniss told pupils:
“It is wonderful to visit Fir Vale School and to receive such a warm welcome. I am impressed at how smart pupils looked and how the school has significantly raised attendance and punctuality. There is a real buzz around Fir Vale and a sense of energy”.
The Pupil Parliament are excellent ambassadors for the school and for pupil voice I’m very happy to invite you to visit the Houses of Parliament later in the year”.
The Pupil Parliament were pleased to meet Gill Furniss MP and offered thanks for their questions being answered. One pupil commented,
“It made me realise that I could become an MP. I want to make things better for people in our community”
Simon Hawkins, Headteacher added:
“It was a pleasure to host Gill Furniss MP. We are a community school and it is important we work with as many people as possible in the locality. Pupils were excited at meeting their MP and being able to answer questions. It also helped pupils to see the value of local democracy.”
