New Extension is Officially Opened
A new extension offering two additional class groups throughout Fir Vale School was officially opened by Rt Hon David Blunkett MP.
"Fir Vale School has gone from strength to strength providing for young people and their families the kind of opportunity that was taken for granted in other parts of Sheffield but now offers equality to all young people in the area," said Mr Blunkett.
"I'm really pleased that it was possible to get the further extension and new facilities in place before the clampdown on investment and expenditure in our schools. I know this will make the most enormous difference in reaching out to the wider community and providing increased access to the large number of families seeking to get their children into Fir Vale."
The record GCSE exam results in each of the last five years, the opening of a Business and Enterprise Centre linked to the local community and the wide range of subjects on offer to students has led to waiting lists.
Chair of Governors Tina Ball explained:Â "It is wonderful to be able to offer places to another two classes each year from now on - our ambition is to be able to offer a place to every child in our catchment area who wants to come to Fir Vale School."
